I was up until three in the morning helping to critique some art for a scientific journal. I was told that my newbie perspective might be useful, because the article in question is intended for beginners.
(Oscar Wilde: “I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit. Touch it, and the bloom is gone.”)
I swore to write every day for a while just to maintain momentum. And I’m also worrying that I don’t have enough links. So I’ll inaugurate a periodic feature: a rundown of my current hobbies.
Top hobbies this month:
- Acoustic Guitar ( Try this and this.)
- Cooking (mostly basic Italian stuff, but I made crepes the other day and they worked pretty well.)
- Biology (a hobby, or a job, or a way of life? I just don’t know.)
Currently on hold for one reason or another:
- Sailing (destined to reappear this summer? I love Boston!)
- Pool. Not the swimming kind.
- Rollerblading bicycling (awaiting weekends when it doesn’t rain all the time).
- Staring at birds in confusion. (Awaiting better weather, or for my resident bird to return from his vacation in Ohio, or for inspiration, or for all of the above.)
- Stereo. As good as it’s gonna get for years. I’ve sworn not to buy anything else. You either have to stop, or pursue higher and higher levels of debt…
Actually, that took a surprisingly long time to put together.
